The New York Times called the music of Epirus, Greece “the world’s most beguiling folk music.” Vasilis Kostas (laouto) and Lysander Jaffe (violin) present music from this rich tradition. Vasilis Kostas is a master of the laouto (Greek lute) and a Mass Cultural Council Fellow in the Traditional Arts. Lysander Jaffe is a multi-style violinist with experience in many folk traditions, who has studied the music of Epirus since 2017. The duo will play live and discuss the history, style, and cultural context of this music, which is so rarely heard outside of Greece. This online event is supported by the Ashfield, Plainfield, and Buckland Local Cultural Councils.
